Sunwood was built with a limited number of spaces for its residents and their guests. Please notify your guests before they arrive that they are to only park in designated visitor spots, and we encourage residents who have multiple visitors to utilize carpooling or use Uber/Lyft.

Census Takers in Your Neighborhood

Census Takers in Your Neighborhood

What To Expect

Census takers will wear masks and follow local public health guidelines when they visit your home. All census takers complete a virtual COVID-19 training on social distancing and other health and safety protocols before beginning their work in neighborhoods.

Census takers are hired from your area, and their goal is to help you and everyone in your home be counted in the 2020 Census. If the census taker who visits your home does not speak your language, you may request a return visit from a census taker who does speak your language.

Census takers work between 9am and 9pm, including weekends. If no one is home when the census taker visits, the census taker will leave a notice of their visit with information about how to respond onlineby phone or by mail

If you respond online or by phone today, a census taker is less likely to have to visit your home to collect your response.

How Can You Verify That Someone Is a Census Taker?

If someone visits your home this year to collect information for the 2020 Census, check to make sure they have a valid ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.

A laptop, laptop bag, confidentiality notices, and an "Official Business" notice for vehicle.

A look at some of the items that a census taker may carry with them, including a laptop, laptop bag, confidentiality notices, and an "Official Business" notice for their vehicle.

A paper questionnaire in a water-resistant plastic bag.

Census takers may also deliver a paper questionnaire by hanging it on the front door in a water-resistant plastic bag.

If you still have questions about their identity, you can contact your regional census center to speak with a Census Bureau representative.

ROOF REPLACEMENT START DATE AUGUST 12th

The project to replace the roofs on buildings 1,3,4,5 and 6 is scheduled to begin on August 12th with the staging, equipment, and materials being delivered the first day. The entire project is expected to take 60 days to complete, at a general rate of 10 days per building, depending on the weather.  We will notify residents in advance of their building’s exact start date and air conditioner stand replacement dates.

The demolition of the existing roof material and installation of the new roofing system will be noisy and an inconvenience; however, we are asking for your cooperation and patience during this time. Buildings 3,4,5 and 6 will require upgraded air conditioning stands to comply with current building codes, the air conditioner will be disconnected for a few hours per stand replacement. Building 1 has previously had the air conditioner stands upgraded.

If you have anything of value or delicate items hanging on walls or ceiling they should be removed for safety, including glass and mirrors.  Delicate nick-nacks should be removed from shelves and safely stored.  If possible windows should remain closed due to dust from construction.   The tear off stage will be quite noisy.

Prior to installation beginning on your building please remove all items from your patio.  This will aid in the protection of your property and will assist us in cleaning up.

Please visit SunwoodCondominium.com for project updates.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated patience and cooperation.

Miami Dade County Face Mask Mandate

Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on expansion of mandatory mask order

Facial coverings will now be required in all public spaces inside and outdoors.

MIAMI ( July 01, 2020 ) — After consulting with the CEOs of South Florida hospitals and Florida Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Mary Mayhew this afternoon, I have decided to issue an emergency order requiring masks in all public spaces inside and outdoors throughout Miami-Dade County.

I also spoke with Broward County officials, to ensure we take a regional approach to tamp down the rising number of COVID-19 cases and avoid stretching some smaller hospitals’ ability to have sufficient staffing in the event of too many cases overwhelming the region’s healthcare system. After speaking with Broward County Administrator Bertha Henry, we agreed that a blanket facial coverings order is needed at this time.

Among the hospital leaders in the virtual meeting were CEOs from Jackson Health, U-Health, Mount Sinai, Baptist, HCA and Tenet health systems. Also participating in the call were hospital officials from Broward and Palm Beach counties.

I will be signing the order later tonight. It will continue to require masks indoors in public spaces, such as office buildings, stores and all businesses, as required by Order 20-20, which I signed on April 9. The amendment to this order that I plan to sign will expand on the use of masks outdoors, which have been required when social distancing of six feet is not possible. The amendment will now require masks to always be used outdoors with few exceptions. The exclusions to the use of masks apply only to those with respiratory conditions that make it difficult to cover their mouth and nose, people doing strenuous activities, such as jogging, and children under the age of 2, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

Certain cities already require the use of facial coverings outdoors. Although the masks haven’t been required in unincorporated areas of the County because there is more open space, I have made the decision to now require facial coverings countywide in an effort to help our hospitals operate with sufficient staffing to care for all patients.

Until the County establishes civil fines related to this order, the current penalties for violating an emergency order remain in effect: up to $500 and/or up to 180 days in jail.

I want to once again reiterate that if everyone follows the New Normal rules of social distancing of at least six feet, wear facial coverings (which can be homemade) and stay safer at home unless they need to go to work or to a store, we can get back to opening up our economy. If people continue to flaunt the rules, we will be forced to close non-essential businesses and all other activities that we began opening up in May.

Please, follow the rules. Do it for your family, your friends, your community – if not for yourself. This pandemic has no borders and no age limits. It is attacking younger people who are ending up in the hospital.

During this July 4th holiday, our police department will continue to be out in force monitoring adherence to the New Normal Rules and will close businesses that are not complying. This is a life and death situation, and everyone must take it seriously.

New Face Covering/Mask Guidelines

Dear Residents,

The CDC now recommends that everyone wear cloth face coverings at Sunwood when leaving their apartment, and when retunrning to the condominium. This includes while in any of the common hallways or common areas.  The CDC recomends face coverings to be worn regardless of whether you have fever or symptoms of COVID-19. This is because people with COVID-19 can spread the disease, even when you don’t have symptoms. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

How cloth face coverings work:

Cloth face coverings may prevent the person wearing the mask from spreading respiratory droplets when talking, sneezing or coughing. If everyone wears a cloth face covering when out in public, such as going to the grocery store, the risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 can be reduced for the community. Since people may spread the virus before symptoms start, or even if people never have symptoms, wearing a cloth face covering may protect others around you. Face coverings worn by others may protect you from getting the virus from people carrying the virus.

General considerations for the use of cloth face coverings

When using a cloth face covering, make sure:
• The mouth and nose are fully covered
• The covering fits snugly against the sides of the face so there are no gaps
• You do not have difficulty breathing while wearing the cloth face covering
• The cloth face covering can be tied or otherwise secured to prevent slipping

Wash your cloth face covering after each use in the washing machine or by hand using a bleach solution. Allow it to completely dry.

Annual Fire Alarm Test

FIRE ALARM TESTING

Dear Residents,

We would like to apologize for the fire alarm test that occurred without notice on Friday afternoon.  Management and the Board of Directors were not made aware that the test was occurring on that day. The testing company has told us that this wont happen again, and that they will provide Management at least a weeks notice of the test date so that we can notify our residents.

Every year authorized personnel from the Fire Alarm System maintenance service provider must be on site to perform the annual fire alarm inspection (Sounders & Output Testing) as part of the annual required inspection.

We know many of you are staying home and working remotely during the day, and we sincerely apologize for the interruption, and any concern or confusion felt by our residents during the test.

Pool Remains Closed

Unfortunately pools are not included in this phase one of the Mayors reopening plan.  The county’s proposed guidelines suggest that the following establishments will be opening at a later date: bars, pubs, night clubs, banquet halls, cocktail lounges, cabarets, and breweries; movie theaters, concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, bowling alleys, arcades, gyms and fitness studios, pools and hot tubs, tattoo shops and massage parlors. Hotels are expected to reopen in June, though no date has been provided.

Once the county decides to open pools the Association will open the pool at Sunwood in line with the guidelines set forth by the Mayor.

First Floor Walkways Re-Painting To Begin Monday April 27th

Dear residents,

The re-painting of the first floor walkways will begin on Monday April 27th at 9 a.m.
The painter will be working in small sections and will knock on your door to notify you that the walkway in front of your unit is being painted.  The floor paint will take approximately 45 minutes to dry. If you must leave your apartment within that time please let the painter know when he knocks on your door and he will work in another area. (Note: Due to social distancing we recommend that if you must leave your apartment within the time frame that you speak through your door or window to the painter, or slightly open your door so that he can hear you. The painter will be wearing a hospital grade N-95 mask)  With low foot traffic in the hallways this is the ideal time to complete this project. The estimated time to completion is 7-10 days.  We appreciate everyone's cooperation.

How to coronavirus-proof your home

How to coronavirus-proof your home

https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020/03/health/coronavirus-tipsheets/coronavirus-proof-your-home/index.html

Life under coronavirus means staying at home as much as possible — but you’ll likely need to make a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy at some point. Download or print this tip sheet to make sure you don’t bring the virus back home with you.

Note: Recommendations for Covid-19 may change as officials learn more, so monitor your local health department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for updates.

Make a game plan
Designate one person to be your errand-runner to limit your outside exposures
Set up a disinfecting station — an area outside your home or in a room with low foot traffic where you can disinfect packaged food

When you’re out
Avoid coming within less than six feet of others
Wipe handles on carts or baskets while shopping
You don’t have to have gloves or a mask — just wash your hands frequently while you’re out and avoid touching your face

When you get back
Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds
Disinfect takeout boxes and packaged foods at your disinfecting station
Thoroughly wash produce before putting it in your kitchen
Disinfect everything you touch — doorknobs, light switches, keys, phone, keyboards, remotes, etc.
Use EPA-approved disinfectants (these include Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and certain Lysol sprays) and leave surfaces wet for 3-5 minutes

Delivery
Ask workers to drop deliveries off on your doorstep or an area of your complex
If they need you to come to the door, keep six feet of distance
Pay and tip online when possible
After you pick up mail from your mailbox, wash your hands

Laundry
Wash clothes, towels and linens regularly on the warmest setting
Disinfect your laundry hamper, too, or place a removable liner inside it
Don’t shake dirty laundry to avoid dispersing the virus in the air

Guests
You shouldn’t allow guests over right now
If you need to house a family member or friend, avoid shared living spaces as much as you can
If they need to enter shared living spaces, ask them to keep six feet of distance

If someone in your home gets sick
First, consult your doctor
Isolate them in another room and ask them to use a separate restroom
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces every day
Avoid sharing items with them
Wear gloves when washing their laundry
Continue to wash your hands frequently
Ask them to wear a face mask if they have one

Supplies you’ll need
EPA-approved disinfectants
If you don’t have disinfectants, make a bleach solution:
Mix four teaspoons bleach per quart of water; or
Use a 70% alcohol solution
Laundry detergent
Trash bags
Prescription medicines (you can mail order these)
Canned foods — fruits, veggies, beans
Dry goods — breads, pastas, nut butters
Frozen foods — meats, veggies, fruits

Pets
Supervise your pet in your backyard
It’s OK to play with them outside — just keep your distance from other humans
If you’re sick, ask someone you live with to take care of them while you recover
If you must care for them while you’re sick, wash your hands frequently

Annual Budget Meeting & Special Meeting Of The Board

Dear Unit Owners :

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, in accordance with the bylaws of the Association and Florida’s Condominium Act, that the Board of Directors of the Association will consider the adoption of the 2020 annual budget of the Condominium Association on February 27th at 7 P.M., at the breezeway located by the mailboxes. A copy of the budget has been mailed to all unit owners.

As most of you know, there are many issues with roof related water leakage throughout the Sunwood complex.   Recent surveys have indicated that at least five of the seven Sunwood buildings have  roofs with extensive  problems.  In addition, the complex  has  a significant termite infestation throughout. To preserve the integrity of the Sunwood buildings and the safety of its residents, the Board is recommending the replacement of five roofs and complete termite eradication by tenting.  The cost of the projects will be financed through an institutional loan.   Payment of the loan will be shared by all unit owners over a period of 10 years through an increase of  $50 per month in the  maintenance fees.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, in accordance with the bylaws of the Association and Florida’s Condominium Act, that the Board of Directors of the Association will convene a special meeting of the Board of Directors on February 27th at 6:45 P.M., at the breezeway located by the mailboxes.

The purpose of this meeting is to consider the approval of a loan with Executive National Bank for $525,000.00 payable over ten (10) years.  The interest rate quoted is 4.75%. In order to pay for the bank loan, the Association will include as a line item in the Association Budget. In attendance will be roofing consultant hired by the Association (Jack Brown & Associates), to discuss the condition of the roofs and answer any questions about the proposed roofing system to be installed.

We would like to encourage all owners to attend these very important meetings.

Very truly yours,

On behalf of the Board of Directors
Sunwood Condominium Association of Miami, Inc.

New Security Cameras Activated

Dear residents,

The security of our residents at Sunwood is important to us and your Board of Directors.  We are pleased to inform you that new 4K High Definition security cameras have been installed and are now activated to record the parking lots and parking lot entrances.  The camera system is a deterrent to criminals, but it cannot prevent crime.  It is always important to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.  The purpose of being vigilant is to train your eyes, mind and body to remain in a state of awareness that allows you to react to situations more quickly that you could from an unaware state. If you see something say something, always report suspicious activity to Miami Dade Police 305-4-POLICE, and always notify management.

To alleviate this problem, we will be mailing all units a Vehicle Registration form that will allow us to properly identify vehicles allowed to park within the association parking lot. All residents must sign and return the form  to the Association by February 15th 2020 so that all vehicles are properly registered with the Association.
